Photographing fireworks

    Hi,

With all the 4th of July photographs of fireworks being posted online lately, I really want to have a go at it...

Anyone help me by naming some festivals that have fireworks?

I know that I'd probably get them on St Patrick's Day and around Halloween, but they are both ages away and I'm sure some summer festivals would have fireworks.

    Thanks.

Anticipate where the display will be in the sky. Try to avoid any fixed lights in frame.x

Select Location & Lens for best capture.

Set up Tripod and camera. Manual Exposure, Manual Focus (focus back a tad from infinity will be fine)
It's a good practice to use a shutter release and to lock up your reflex mirror to minimise shake.

To start set ISO to camera default.
Shutter Speed between 1/4 to many seconds, Aperture fairly wide open.

Experiment with different settings as it goes along. Varying the shutter varies the trail length and Aperture/ISO the brightness.

    Thanks for the tips.

Was looking for help identifying places to go that will be having fireworks, but I do appreciate the tips.

    Bastille Day July 14th.

We were in a small village in Normandy a few years ago and the fireworks were really good.

cheers. Was in Bareges one year for it myself and it was fun.

Anywhere closer to home, Dublin or Ireland?

You'll probably find more frequent shows north of the border then down here in the south. If you can be patient then Nov 5th usually has a show or two. There is an Red Arrows airshow in Newcastle soon enough, might be some fireworks later in the evening at that.

The 12th parades occasionally have fireworks of one description or another. :)

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Ballina Salmon festival here in Mayo usually have fireworks, I think at the end of the festival. Has started this week I think.

Small towns around the country are coming into their festival season. Many towns would have a small fireworks show, although I've seen fireworks shows in some small towns that have been better than shows put on during the volvo ocean race.

Check the small towns around you for websites and see if they have a festival program up, they might have a show on the last day to close it off.
