Lumbar spine specialist; recommendations?

So I've recently found out that my back is in a bad way. It's a bit of a shock considering my age and lack of previous back trouble but I've had an MRI that showed herniations at L3/L4, L4/L5 and L5/S1. The latter two are more serious with spinal cord/thecal sac and emerging nerve impingement.

I've been given a referral letter to see a spinal consultant. The letter has the name of four consultants (below). Has anybody any experience with these that they would like to share or can they recommend some others I should consider going to see?
    • Keith Synott, Santry Sports Clinic
    • David Moore, Blackrock
    • Marcus Timlin, Mater Private
    • Padraig O'Neill, Beacon in Sandyford

Dont know if Padraig O'Neill is the same guy that my OH has attended in the Mater Private - he was called Paraic O'Neill. OH has had 2 surgeries with him, 2009 & 2013 for l4/5 disc herniation with synovial cyst, apart from severe pain also caused loss of and altered sensation in the foot. Paraic O'Neill performed microdiskectomy/laminectomy/forminectomy.

I had surgery with Ashley poynton in December and cannot speak highly enough of him. I refer to him as God fairly regularly. Had l 4-s1 fused and has been a complete success. Am flying about the place. Was referred to him by a pain management specialist in limk who said he was the best in the country. He works from the mater private. Think positive-there really is life after back surgery :-D

Padraig O'Neill if is the same Padraig in Mater Private is excellent. the man is a genius as far as I'm concerned. Sorted out my Mam's back in 1 consultation and 1 operation. She had endured nearly 2 years of constant pain, attending various Physios, quacks etc for pain relief while waiting for Public Health system to do something for her. She eventually paid and went private and is now pain free :-)
