To give up or fight?

My boyfriend of a year and half left me last week. While we had been stuck in a bit or a rut, i still love him very much and was really not expecting it to end. He says he does love me, but he was just too unhappy in our relationship to keep going. I know we had some issues, but nothing too major or fundamental, and I truly believe that all of the issues could be resolved with a little effort. He said that things shouldn't have gotten so bad after just a year and a half.

We moved very quickly at the beginning, too quickly probably, but we were so in love. He is my family, and we were building a future together. We had talked about marriage and kids within the next couple of years.

I just don't think I can let go that easily. Should I fight for this relationship? How do I let go when I know the love is still there?

I hope this doesn't come across harsh OP, but what do you think there is to fight for?? Your boyfriend was unhappy in the relationship, he made the decision to leave. Whether the relationship or not continues is really out of your hands. If you think there is a chance that he was hasty, you can talk to him and see if he wants to make it work, but nothing you have posted so far indicates that he is having second thoughts about his decision. Hard as it may be, you may need to let him go, and move on.

This looks like a case where you are not in the same relationship.

You say your problems are not fundamental - he disagrees because he broke up with you over these problems.

You say he's your family - he does not think you are his family.

You want to fight - he wants to break up.

You may be oblivious to the problems, or you might not hold them as seriously as he does, but that's all irrelevant. He doesn't want to be your boyfriend any more, and unless he has indicates changes that you're both willing to make and work on, there's nothing you can do.

I would reflect on why you thought it was going stale, what did the breakup stem from.

If you know the reason is it one you can fix?

    Is there any point!

You may be in love but it takes more than love to keep a relationship going.
