Looking at buying an 09 Passat CR 170 DPF (Highline). What are people averaging in MPG approximately? I'd be happy enough with 45-50 MPG though I do have a heavy right foot. I wouldn't mind the extra power/torque of the 170 but I'm wondering if the CR 140 would be significantly more frugal. I do mainly motorway miles. Opinions?

I have that engine in my Passat CC and am averaging about 50MPG. I do mainly long runs with a few shorts ones over the weekend.

Thanks Harcrid. Which year do you have if you don't mind me asking? Reason; I was looking at the Passt CC also but I thought that the lack of middle seat might be a hassle. Also I'm not sure if I can justify the extra premium over the Passat, though the Passat CC is hands down far nicer style-wise, imo. The GT I would obviously prefer over the base model but I think the premium for 18s compared to 17s would also be a deterrent for me, price-wise only.

Thanks Zascar, on that site for 2009 Passats most people seem to be getting high 30s to low 40s...though it is in US MPG.

We have a 170 bhp dsg cc ( 5 seats) and averaging about 40mpg mainly short runs. fabulous car all the same and very zippy.

Mine is a 2009 GT 170 manual. Lack of a middle seat is not an issue for me as I rarely have more than four in the car. Later models from around 2010 have the middle seat but it's quite small.

I personally think it's worth the premium over the regular Passat especially in GT spec. It's a great looking car and always makes you turn around and take a look at it when you park it up. :-)

I imported mine myself which got me the GT spec for the same price as what a standard one would have cost me here.
