F1 to H1-B or other work visa

    Well guys,

I'm currently an Irish 3rd year student studying accounting and economics in Florida. I'm on a F1 visa at the minute. I'll graduate in 2016 and I have been researching my options to stay and work in the U.S. after I graduate.

I have no immediate family in the America (bar an uncle in NY) so I can't apply through the green card route. I know it is difficult to get companies to sponsor a H1-B due to the large cost on their part, but I'm somewhat positive giving that I will have a degree from an American university, and that accountancy falls under the "skilled" employment category, to my understanding.

Does anyone have any experience with H1-B sponsorship or does anyone have any advice on the subject?

    Thanks in advance

You know that being on a F1 might give you a right to OPT to bridge the gap? An that there is a special quota for those graduating from a US university with a Masters or higher degree.

Would it be possible to do a postgrad while working 20 hours a week in accounting (as an F1 allows you)?

Yes I had spoken to my adviser about OPT and I feel that the is probably the most likely route I will take once I graduate.

Depending on the workload, I would say it is possible to do the min 20 hours a week while doing a postgrad, it would be just finding a position and a university where I can do both at the same time!

If I took an internship during this school year, would that effect the length of my OPW?
