I'm in a bit of a situation here people. Im 18 and done my Leaving Cert in 2013. I'm currently on Job Seeker's and looking to go to college in September. However... The course I want to do isn't recognised by SUSI, so no grant for me :(
Does anyone know any government schemes/grants I'm eligible for? Surely the government have to give me something to help me through college. I'm saving some money to get me through college now, but as it is I won't make it past November without running out of money :(

Is it a course you are looking to do or is it actually college, you refer to it as both, there shouldn't be any college course that isn't eligible for the susi grant. If you mentioned the course it would help people help you. You should be wary though and make sure employers would accept the course if susi won't.

It's the Trinity Access Programme, it's a year long full - time course and after that I'll be into Trinity. It must be the only course in Ireland Trinity doesn't recognise.

    Thanks for the reply :)

Can't help you with the grant unfortunately. I'd definitely still encourage you to try your best to do it, it's brilliant and I knew a few people last year who were in great trinity college courses because of it !

I cant see why it's not recognised but I don't know any more about it than that. I've heard about it before though and it may be considered an entrance exam rather than a course. The best thing to do is contact the college and see if they can say anything about it.

    Whats the course?

I dont see why SUSI wouldnt recognise it.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
