I'm thinking of changing my car and I do 16 to 18,000kms per year so I will go for a Diesel. I am not really sure what to go for and would like to hear suggestions, what to get, avoid etc.

    Thanks

    Petrol Prius,

and there's a bit of value in DSG Seats but it's Russian roulette with all Vag DSG boxs and 4 k to replace.

Somewhere between €10 to €12k, I'm currently driving a petrol BMW e36 running LPG for the last 2 years. I was also considering a Diesel E90 but am not really sure and it doesn't have to be another BMW. French cars are automatically excluded from my list however.

Fantastic spec on this one, though as above the DSG box can be a gamble so make sure to see evidence of proper servicing.

You're averaging about 10k miles p/a - how much of that is start-stop city driving? And how much would be main road/motorway driving?

The road tax on that is €570 so too high. 95% of my driving in non-Motorway "N-Roads" and "R-Roads" varying from 80 to 100kmph, very little start stop city stuff as I live in Kerry.

I'm also open to importing from the UK again as I did with my previous car before.

18k km per years is about just over 11k miles which is not huge all things considered, I wouldn't rule out a good reliable petrol car either. There is some good value in them these days as everyone jumps on the diesel train. I would not get hung up on the cheap tax thing either, it won't be around for ever and cars that tend to be cheap to tax tend to cost more to initially buy.

    1.4 litre and 122bhp.

Or alternatively if you do prefer diesel then the Mondeos tend to go for less money, 2.0 litre TDCi is the preferable choice in them:
