Fixing Peugeot Heater - Who does it?

    Hey guys,

I know this really belongs in the repairs sub-forum, but as I'm looking for a fairly specific poster/s to reply, i thought i'd put it here and see if the mods would let it sit on the main forum for a couple of hours (as i know a lot less people view the repair forum, unless they themselves are seeking a repair).

Pretty much, my Peugeot 407 has two issues. One is the LCD screen in the centre of the dash fading in hot weather/heat, and the other is a heater issue. Both are known 407 issues (and thankfully I knew of both before purchasing, so neither were a nasty surprise).

However, I have searched for the 407 heater problem (my car only blows warm air on the drivers side. Apparently a flap somewhere inside the dash breaks and causes this).

This has been discussed in-depth before here, and along the way in almost every thread the conversation turns to "I know a chap that fixes those the whole time. Does a good job, cheaper than a dealer, too".

But contact info never gets posted.

So I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of an indy mechanic that'd be well clued into taking apart 407s and fixing their common issues?

Usually someone in Monaghan gets recommended, I think?

I'm in the north east if that helps at all.

    Cheers :)

The dash has to come out to fix the heater. Here's what the job looks like: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=89549278&postcount=251. Just ensure you get both sides done while the dash is out, the flaps and spindles themselves are only a few euro.

There's a chap in Longford does it for about €600. Here's his details: http://cars.donedeal.ie/carparts-for-sale/peugeot-407-citroen-c5-heater-repairs/7243473. It's a bit pricey, but miles cheaper than a main dealers, and he knows exactly what he's at.

As for the LCD, mine does it when either side heater is turned to full and the fan is off, I assume it's just the LCD reacting to heat. It's probably related to your above problem. Mine has been bad enough that lines were appearing, but they disappear once it cools down. If yours does turn out to be faulty, they're dead easy to replace (the surround pops out and it's two torx to remove it) and quite cheap on eBay.

Ahh.. I thought he was cheaper than that. :o Main dealer in Drogheda want €650, and their work carries a warranty, as far as I know.

EDIT: I plan to ring him, anyway, and see what he says :)

Get a price from your local dealer down south/north as they have dropped there prices for this job.....parts work out around €80-90.

Rang that Longford chap. He reckons €450 (well, €454..). So looks like that's the way to go with it, then.
