    hey, looking for some advice.

    have around €1000 budget
was looking at 2 seat leons

one was a 2001 1.6, nct and tax, 79k miles and timeing belt done at 60k €1100 coming from a garage

the other was 2000 tdi no tax, full year nct, but high mileage at 190k, timeing belt done 20k ago €950 private sale

im leaning towards the petrol one, cheaper tax, lower milage. insurance is near enough the same on both,

have done a check on both. the 1.6 came back okay.
the tdi showed a gap in nct

    any advice? pros and cons?

It's a €1k car so go with which ever one is in the best condition and running well. Treat both as a private sale as don't expect a garage to stand over anything in this price range.

BTW 190k miles is not high on a 14 year old diesel car especially if it has been looked after.

i know 190k is not overly high for a diesel of that age, the few year gap in nct would make me question as to how well it was looked after tho

the petrol one looks to be in immaculate shape

If the TDI is in good shape id go for it , depends on how much mileagwe your gonna be doing though I suppose.

Prepare yourself for leaky doors and wet floors as well.
It is something you will have to watch and fix.

I know about the leaky door issues, im comfortable enough with fixing that myself when it happens.

Its engine wise i was thinking. Heard the petrol engines in them can be hit or miss. But it does look to be in great shape

As far as I am aware the 1.6 engine is ok.

My son had a 1.9 2001 Toledo turbo diesel and it never gave him any real bother.
I think it had near 240k on it when he sold it.
He bought it with around 180/190 on it.
