waxing before holiday

I'm a waxing virgin but have decided it's time to bite the bullet.
How close to my holiday should I get it done? I'm going in a week and a half, I don't want to be red and sore while away but also don't want re-growth. Also what is suitable clothing to wear before/during/after getting it done?
    Thanks in advance.

Get it done 3-5 days before. Make sure you go to a good therapist, I find Urban Wax very good. I always like to go knickerless after getting my Hollywood done so a maxi dress is ideal as you can easily go commando. Don't bathe or shower for 24 hours after, avoid any cosmetics like scented body lotion etc for a day or so and use a bit of Sudocrem to reduce redness. Good idea to take a couple of ibuprofen about half an hour beforehand too.

Plus one on the ibuprofen, it helps a lot! Another suggestion is, from very personal experience do not get it done when your close to your period, all I can say is the pain was horrific and the redness afterwards was worse!

Great advice guys, thanks so much.
I'd never have known not to shower, sudocrem is a good tip too.

I'll book for next week so, gives me time to build myself up to it :-)

I could have started this thread myself OP, also thinking about getting it done for the first time but petrified.

Anyone who has had it done before, do you know how long would you usually need to wait (hold off shaving etc) prior to getting a wax? How long does the hair have to be?

No need to be petrified. Personally speaking, I wouldn't even dream of going near there with a razor. I used to years ago but once you wax there is no going back as it removes everything, lasts for ages and there is no wild-eyed insatiable desire to scratch the burning itch in your crotch that seems to happen with shaved re growth :o

Try and leave your fanjita alone for a couple of weeks. I'm not going to lie, shaved hair is harder and a little more painful to wax because it is tougher and because it grows in different directions. Once you have it waxed though subsequent waxes won't be as bad.

Do please pick a good salon though. I wouldn't just walk in blindly asking someone to do it. I'd only go on recommendation or to a specialist salon like Urban Wax or Brazilia as you're guaranteed it will be done well then.

    Ibuprofen is your friend! :)

    Hi OP,

I've moved your thread to the beauty forum :)

    Their charter now applies :)

Is it bikini waxing you are talking about? If so a couple of days before should suffice, if it's for legs leave it a bit longer if you are tanning after. In Dublin I'd recommend wax in the city

If you are dark like me. 3-5 days is too far away from departure date. I would be hairy within the week . I usually get it done the day before as first day of holiday is spent travelling so no need to show it all off until the following day

I have quite fair hair so regrowth shouldn't be too much if a problem, bikini I'm after and its good to hear a few people say pay more to go to somewhere good because to be honest I had been looking up a cheap local salon where I get my nails done but on your advice I think I'll head into town

Got it done today, forgot the ibuprofen it was painful but lovely lady doing it so I survived, and not nearly as awkward having someone poking around there as I had imagined it would be.
As am so pale the redness stand out even more so I'm hoping lashing of sudocream tonight will sort me out.
Thanks everyone for you advice :-)

Best of luck to you Breadcrusts.

Glad you found it good. Once you wax there, there is no going back IMHO. Enjoy your holiday!

I am a young 59 yr old(!) & believe it or not have never waxed! Always shaved..just never had the courage but would love to try it now. Going on hols in Sept & have decided to go to Urban Wax but I'm petrified! That's reason I've never gone. Have very dark hair & always have prob with hair round bikini line when wearing swimsuit..shaving causes rash. Was wondering for any advice..what is 3/4 leg? Would 3/4 leg and basic bikini wax be sufficient or should I get full leg & basic bikini & if so what's the difference? Haven't a clue..basically just want legs & bikini line (top of leg only as I won't actually be wearing a bikini!!) to be hair free for holiday..sorry for rambling on but any advice/comments etc would be really appreciated. Also is there anyone else out there who left it as late as me to have first wax & if so how was it??

You could look at having a full leg was and an extended bikini wax. An extended bikini wax is fine if you want to keep your pubic hair but will be wearing swimwear.

    Hi Marianne2, welcome to boards.ie!

I would recommend you having a tester done first before taking on anything like you mention here.
The 1st time I got a waxing done, major skin-irritation as I've sensitive skin and the next-time back the beautician used a different wax and all went to plan.
You should get the tester done in some time before you need the waxing done on your legs before your holiers :)

Hope that helps in some way,
    kerry4sam
