Recommend a good classic football game besides FIFA, Sensi and ISS

I'm mad to try out an old football game that I never got to play, but there are thousands of ones to choose from. I was a FIFA boy right from the beginning (besides a 4 year hiatus playing PES 3, 4, 5, 6, then playing FIFA 08 onwards). I've played ISS and I've played Sensible Soccer.

Were they the only good ones out there back then? Or are there some hidden gems?

Super soccer for the SNES. Fcking loved tat!

You could shoulder charge opponents. Knock them down with power shots. And keepers with manual control were the best. Scoring goals was a bit of a puzzle too. Once you figured out the various ways it was quite easy.

    Really catchy music themes too.

World Cup Italia '90 and later, Sega Soccer on the megadrive was great if only for the deadly music and the ridiculous banana goal keepers during penalties - in fairness though it was pretty crap aside from that.

(As far as I can tell it was the exact same game only re-named when the World Cup was over)

Kick Off 2 and Goal! on the Amiga are worth trying out, both by Dino Dini. Neither are as good as SWOS though. Goal! has some great crowd chants iirc, plays good too.

If you have a C64 then Microprose Soccer is the best you'll find on that machine (made by the same crowd that gave us Sensi and many more non-footy gems).

Yeah, remember playing them, International Soccer as well (christ, can't believe that one is 1983!) - but the op did say good footy games. :P
Not sure I'd say these ones were good, we were just stuck for choice back then.

Match day on the old B&W TV was hilariously good:D

European Club Soccer on the Megadrive was a good one, I remember a cheat code to this day - enter Three Shredded Wheat on the password screen for more powerful strikes :D

I still own that actually, was the first football game I ever played and played it to death until I got FIFA International Soccer.

That cheat code though, I never heard of it  Must give it a go for the buzz :D

This is Football was a great game. I'm sure it was the '03 version I had for the PS2. You could dive, do two-footed tackles and tackle the goalkeeper (all great ways to annoy friends who are playing against you by the way).

Striker and world cup striker for the SNES. Still very enjoyable.

Marko's Magic Football - all the joys of kicking a black and white leather ball, but with pretty much all the other stuff about football removed and replaced with magic, monsters, teleporting and giant sprites!

At least no one mentioned the excrement that was Actua Soccer.

    Virtua Striker - Dreamcast.

Is that the one with the indoor 5 a side mode? Great craic that

Kick Off 2 is a must play if you're looking for seminal footy games. The version on the MD was quite good too if you cant lay your hands on an Amiga!

Adidas power soccer was the first soccer game I had on the ps1.
Was it triangle & X that did the predator power shot or square or circle?

Actually, the Super Sidekicks games on the Neo Geo are pretty good, and play readily by emulation on a whole host of devices.

+1 for Goal! on the Amiga.

I had a copy ( )of Man Utd in Europe when i was young, the anti piracy device was a circular card that you had to line up the jersey with the shorts and type in the resulting code, I had only written down a few of them so spent most of my time reloading the game until one of the combinations i had came up :D

I was just going to post Actua Soccer. Loved that game. Used to play as South Korea with 7 players behind the lone striker.

I always thought that Konami Hyper Soccer for the NES was a good one for its time. It's the predecessor to ISS.

    Home computer Sensible Soccer FTW.

I've played a lot of ISS on N64.

    Microprose soccer on C64.

    SWOS on Commodore Amiga.

    Championship Manager 93/94 on PC.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Microprose Soccer though is especially good.

Try and win the World Cup with Oman though! :)

There was this utter bag of crap on the Amiga:

    I Play 3D Soccer

    MmqtIZR.png

It was a first person perspective game where you control just one player on the pitch.

Libero Grande on the PS and a sequel.
It had the odd feature of being a soccer game where you play as a single player on the field.
