Ignition coil snapped in tube...how to remove?

Well folks, I was replacing the ignition coils on my 04 Golf 1.4 today...when one of the damn things cracked as I was pulling it out, leading to the situation in this photo: imgur.com/CI3MqZm

Anyone ever dealt with one of these before? Got any theories on how best to pull it out?

Looks like you might be able to pull it up with a flat blade screw driver

use a hover to extract any smaller bits before you remove spark plug

ive attached your image to post

its probably very brittle from the heat, but at the same time it must be jammed in pretty good, if it cracked rather than pulling out in one piece.

I doubt you'll get it out in one piece, I'd just get a long screw driver, a few swift taps and it should break up. Then hoover out the pieces....

Cheers guys, really annoying, this should have been a five minute job!

Should I be worried about scraping or otherwise damaging the sides of the tube it's sitting in? I'm a total noob at this, don't know what consequences that would or wouldn't have...

As long as you dont gouge it badly it shouldn't matter.

It looks to be only the rubber left so shouldn't be hard.

id go for long narrow screwdriver too but give it a grind to take off the sharp edges of it

or a long needle nose pliars might do.

Got the bastard! Wasn't actually in that tight, finally dug it out with a screwdriver.

I was replacing the coils because the engine had developed a shudder and a garage had told me two of the coils were faulty (figured I'd just replace all 4 as the other two couldn't be far behind...). I'd say this crack was the source of the woes.

Now I just have to figure out a way to get power to a hoover down there in the bloody underground carpark of my apartment building to clear out the debris...

I've blown most of it out, how bad do you guys think it would be to drive this thing 400m down the road to my office where I have an outlet? Here's the current condition: imgur.com/eGu8jYd.jpg (sorry about the non link, boards.ie says I'm not allowed post them because I'm new :( )

You be fine driving it as far as you want.

The reason to hover out any dirt and bits from old coil is when the spark plug is removed they could fall into the piston cylinder.
