Some tips for analyzing newspapers online using Nexis

    Hi all,

I've been using Nexis to compare some newspaper articles over 2013, but could possibly be pi55ing in the wind with my results.

I am filtering out articles containing certain words. I am assuming most articles published end up online these days.

Would it be better to carry out a site search online?

For example: "joe bloggs" site search:www.irishtimes.com

I suppose I am trying to look at the idea that different newspapers would report on a particular topic in different ways, be it in a more positive or negative way.

It might just be a case of reading through the Nexis results article by article...

    Hi.

i think most content goes online eventually, however some articles would be shortened or be behind a paywall after a certain time. The public Library in Pearse st probably would be worth contacting. They keep an archive of the main newspapers ( Irish Times, Irish Indo, Examiner and possibly The Star) . If you needed tabloids from a certain day, you could call the Mail, Mirror, and Sun offices and they should have an archive of their past issues somewhere. Just explain to them what you are doing, Research etc. i'm sure most will help you if they can.
