New job, but some issues with Jobseeker's Allowance

    Hey everyone

I have been trying to get employment for the last 7 months and finally I have got a job! I have not started yet but the only issue is that I need to move to a different county for the job and I'm not paid from the job for the first month as it's monthly pay. I have absolute no money and I'm currently on Jobseeker's Allowance and don't know what to do. If I were to to explain my situation to the social welfare and gave proof of when I will be paid from the company, will they let me still claim till the date that I'm paid? I'm extremely worried about it and this job is a once in life time opportunity for me so could you please let me know what you all think of my situation. Thanks :)

You will not be allowed to continue in receipt of Jobseekers after you start working. You could apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance - there is provision for an Exceptional Needs Payment which you might obtain. Otherwise, it is a matter of borrowing whatever you can from friends and relatives. Some employers will give an amount in advance of pay date once you have worked a week or two and you shouldn't hesitate to ask for that as the situation you find yourself in is quite common.
