    Hi all,

A brief synopsis to make things easier.

Mate of mine living in Ireland for last 2 years or so on an extended visa, visa did not allow him work but was working part time and got caught with the net result being he has 6 weeks to leave the country. He has decided to continue on a previously booked hol to South America and will be returning to ROI via Manchester and into Belfast.

What are the chances of him being stopped?

Although he is a decent guy with no record etc he still technically is an illegal immigrant, be interesting to see if he can get back into the ROI through Belfast and if he does what does it say for our national security if he can get into the country with such ease. Will keep ye posted if anyone is interested!!

It happens. What were the chances of him getting caught breaching the conditions of his visa?

Depends on whether his information is shared with the UK authorities, which does happen sometimes. It's more likely to happen if he has an actual deportation order against him. Under the common travel agreement the Brits can prevent him from entering the UK in order to keep him from coming back here again. It's certainly not guaranteed that will happen, and if he does get into the UK he's very unlikely to be caught coming back here overland.
