“That the tenant shall have the option of giving to the landlord two months notice in writing expiring on the expiration of the term herby created remain in possession for a period of one year expiring on the 13th day of June 2015 subject in all other respects to same covenants and conditions as are herein contained save an option to renew or remain.”

I'm just looking for a basic translation of this text awkwardly worded gibberish to verify what I think it means.

    thanks

    okay then...
my take is that you can give 2 months’ written notice within the first year of tenancy, the last day of your 2 month notice has to be before the last day of the 1 year lease agreement (13 june 2015) you will continue to abide by all other stipulations within the contract, except you will no longer have the right to renew or remain.

maybe just "like" if you agree with my assessment or tell me otherwise?

“That the tenant shall have the option of giving to the landlord two months notice in writing expiring on the expiration of the term herby created [TO] remain in possession for a period of one year expiring on the 13th day of June 2015 subject in all other respects to same covenants and conditions as are herein contained save an option to renew or remain.”

I am guessing that the word 'to' had been omitted.

As the clause is clumsily drafted and unclear, you'll have to regard this as guesswork as to how it is framed:

The tenant appears to have an option to remain in possession for one year, until the 13th June 2015, under the same terms as the original lease, except for having no right to renew or remain.

This option appears to be exercisable upon two month's written notice, such notice to expire upon the expiry date of the term of the lease.

Perhaps there is documentation or correspondence which could clarify matters.

Do you already have a lease? Was it due to expire on 13 June 2014? If yes and this clause was included then it was likely a one year extension for which you would have to have given notice by 13 April 2014. Is your landlord asking you to vacate?

It's my mates lease, i'm just asking the question on his behalf. I believe he only signed the lease for a new place there on the 13 or 14th of june 2014.

He has changed his mind about living there and looking at his options.
