    Hey all,

I received my first fis payment 6 weeks ago today and in the letter it said the arrears would follow shortly....there is still no sign of it...

Does anyone know if this is the norm? I've been trying to ring them but the phone just keeps ringing and ringing...

    Cheers

Get onto them we got that letter but we got the arrears with our first payment six weeks seems too long. You just have to keep ringing we were usually on half an hour before they answered. They also have an email address you can try

They are very, very hard to get a hold of. I personally found they are harder to get in contact with than my grandmother is, and that woman has been dead for about 5 years.

Nevertheless, pick up the phone, put on the kettle, and call them. Your arrears would typically come with your first payment.

all arrears payments are sent to Sligo to check that the person has never had an over payment, they check back 15 years. this could be the delay.

When did they start sending all arrears payments to sligo

About a year ago, is not the payments that are sent, it's the applications.

It's too make sure that there are no out standing over payments due to the dept before the claimant gets their arrears.

All application for arrears for what every scheme are validated through Sligo(no idea why its Sligo) to make sure the claimant is not owing an overpayment.

No idea why, this is just what I was told.

you must be getting a good lump sum, this happened to me when I signed on as a lone parent, it took over 6 months to get my first payment and my arrears didn't come with it, it probably took around 6-7 weeks for the arrears to come into my account after this, hope this helps, just keep ringing them, it will be worth the wait, enjoy ;)
