Seeing nothing in the media but doomed suckler wipeout I was wondering the following . At present we read a lot about the success of the irish Dairy Bord IDB , why can't the government set up an Irish Beef Bord IBB and let it function along the same lines as the dairy one , take the farmers raw product and market it around the world !! Just wondering what ye think ??

The Irish Dairy Board is owned by Irish Processors, in turn owned by Irish Dairy Farmers.

I certainly believe it is time for Irish Beef Farmers to consider forming something similar to market and sell our beef.

Not a beef factory, but an agency owned by farmers through which farmers secure a market for their beef. The beef factories could then tender for the contract to process this beef for farmers.

If the problem at the moment is due to supply over 30000 hd per week, then we as farmers need to be more active in securing an outlet for our beef.

I believe we are 40 years behind dairy farmers in this regard.

One of the biggest risks going forward in the dairy industry will be price volatility. IDB will have to manage that quater by quater. If there was a IBB it would of had to suppress the price 2 years ago...how popular would that have been?
