    Hey,

Wondering has anyone covered some or all of the route Bilbao-Barcelona? A few of my friends will be in Barca in late July and I was hoping to cycle around a part of Europe for a week at some point anyway so I'm considering joining covering the ~600km in 6 days and meeting them for their last 3 days there.

Only concerns are safety of the route and getting to Bilbao with a bike for cheap? I've never done anything like this so appreciate any info.

    Thanks.

Follow the route of the Camino for most of the way (stick to the roads rather than the offroad Camino route) - really cheap hostels - cheap food and accomodation all along the route.

Stay away from the municipal hostels and pay a little extra for the private ones (around €12 - €18 a night). Most are set up for walkers and cyclists with bike storage facilities and do set menus for around €10 for dinner.

The Camino in Bilbao goes back to San Sebastián but it is still a good 600k from there to Barcelona. About 50 of us will doing this route on the Hospice cycle starting on the 21st but we will be in and out of the Pyrenees most days. Overall we are looking at about 700k and 6000m of climbing over five days.
There is another Camino that crosses Northern Spain running from Rioja to Barcelona but it is further south than your route I think. Good luck with your trip.
