Algarve: best place for families

Hi, I've never been to the Algarve before but we are thinking of doing a ryanair, apartment from ownersdirect but don't know what area is best for families(hubby,wife, 2 kids 7 & 5). We're not going to be heading out to the bars and clubs so a quiet family area with good shops and bars and close to the beach. any help…
