Sold a car in May, logbook has not yet arrived

Hi all, in a bit of a pickle here.

Basically I sold an old car on May 18th. Placed an ad online and it was gone the same evening. Buyer signed the logbook and I posted it the very same evening, addressed to:

    "Department of Transport,
    Shannon,
    Co. Clare"

Fast forward to this morning, the buyer called me and explained that he has not yet received the logbook and he was wondering whether or not i sent it off. I confirmed that I did and mentioned that I texted him when I did. He acknowledged the text but said that he has checked online a few times and according to the D.O.T it has bot been received.

I've called the Department of Transport and they have also confirmed that they haven't received it. They weren't very helpful otherwise.

I'm not too sure what exactly I can do here. The buyer has told me that he doesn't need it but he would like to have it and he has also acknowledged that I'm not trying to scam him or whatever.

For the record, it was an old style logbook, from an 80s car.

Its a nuisance but I'm pretty sure you can make a declaration through a solicitor / commissioner of oaths, and it has the same effect. Given the time elapsed, then its probably been lost in the post.

Solicitor or Justice for the peace.

Get the declaration form from Shannon.

    Cost me €10.00

    Thanks for the quick response.

I'll get back onto D.O.T about that.

No need for solicitors or J.O.P.
Just a Garda witness as you sign the form (and €12)
As the car is still in your name all you are doing is applying for a replacement log book as the original is lost.

For the record, it was an old style logbook, from an 80s car.

If it was the pre-93 logbook it should have been sent to the local motor tax office with form RF200. From here:
Change in Ownership for pre 1993 vehicles

Form RF200 should be used where a change of ownership needs to be notified for a vehicle registered before 1 January 1993. The completed form and registration (log) book must be submitted to your local motor tax office. This Form RF200 is available from Motor Tax Offices, Public Libraries and Garda Stations or can be downloaded at www.motortax.ie. If the vehicle is being sold to a motor dealer the registration book should be given to the motor dealer and Form RF 200 sent to the local motor tax office.
All I can suggest now is as posted above, get a replacement issued to you and send it off again.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

So, I dropped into my local Garda station, and as above by mgbgt1978, I just needed to fill out a form and have a Guard stamp it.

New logbook should arrive shortly, hopefully.

    Many thanks.
