    Hello all, apologies if this is in the wrong forum/sub forum. Quick question we have recently had a chimney fire in the house that we are renting. We called the fire brigade, they put it out without any structural damage occurring. The question is who is liable for to pay them for their services, the tenants or the landlord?

    Our landlord is no longer dealing with the auctioneers so we don't know how an issue like this is dealt with outside of the normal channels or how our tenancy agreement stands with him.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    what does the lease state about taking care of the chimney sweeping/general repair of the house - read the lease becasue there may be;
    • a clause in there prohibiting any fires - the tenant pays and probably will lose their deposit
    • a clause saying the tenant is responsible for cleaning the chimney - the tenant owes the money

    Check the lease and see if they are there first

    Amazing that people are lighting fires in June/July. I would be amazed if the landlord did not have a clause requiring the tenant to clean the chimney. Are there any other ways of heating the rental.
