GFX card upgrade

    Hi all,

Wondering if I could get some advice from you wise sages on a new GFX card for my system.

My trusty Radeon HD 4850 has finally gotten to the point where games just flat out won't play anymore...much like wearing a shoe until it's absolutely knackered, it's time to upgrade!

My budget is €150-€200. I'm completely out of the loop on GFX cards, since my current one has done me for about 5 or 6 years at this stage. I realise this won't get me a high-end card, but something to run games for the next couple of years at decent settings would be sweet. I've no problem buying used. Gaming PC by the way.

    My current setup:

    Gigabyte S1155 Intel H61 DDR3 mATX
    Intel Core i5-2300 2.80GHz S1155 6MB
    Kingston 8GB (4 x 2GB) HyperX DDR3 1333MHz 240-pin DIMM CL7 XMP
    Hitachi 500GB Deskstar 1K1000

    Any advice much appreciated.

And if anybody could let me know...my i5 2300. Trash? Or something I can rely on for the next few years of gaming?

If you could scrape together another €35 you'd get a 280 Direct CU II
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Radeon-DirectCU-Graphics-GDDR5-Express/dp/B00J3K9Y6E
    or a GTX 760
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nvidia-GeForce-DirectCU-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B00DBPKEOI

    You'd be chewing up 1080p.

If you stretch to 230, 280X delivered.

Otherwise, a 270X is a good buy at 175 delivered.

Again only get any of these if your power supply unit. Is capable. Otherwise you be paying out more.

Thanks guys, most of those are just out of my price range, but I presume I could pick them up used for my budget, so good to get the names. R9 270X is looking like the best bet at the moment.

    PSU is 650W ATX.

Everybody linking to amazon, is that the best place to order from? I was checking prices on dabs, but as I said it's been a while since I last upgraded. Free delivery to Dublin from Amazon?

Also...would the whole Gameworks thing encourage people to buy nVidia cards now for future titles? Or is that something I shouldn't bother considering?

I do love the idea of Shadowplay too, if it works as good as it sounds.
