Hey, I need a new front mech and trying to get it sorted ASAP. All parts on my bike are shimano (105) .
Just wondering if the front mech can be SRAM or Campag' etc ?

    Thanks

They used to be much more interchangeable, but manufacturers are now making more integrated systems, i.e. they're designed to be used with their shifters only. You'd probably make it work, but I wouldn't be confident you'd have as good shifting as using the mech intended for it.

Iirc the pull ratio might be different across manufacturers. I know sram is 1:1 but a quick interwebnet search says it'll work with a little adjusting.

its for the commute bike. All i care about is that it wont be clicking/rubbing when i'm cycling :)

SRAM and Shimano should work fine. Not sure about Campag, high likelihood it would throw a strop and refuse to work with such ugly components.

    they/them/theirs

While the my Italian friend is certainly not happy about the new close working arrangement with the Americans, i have a campag veloce front derailleur working fine with sram shifters. Honestly can't tell the difference.

I have sympathy for the shop here. It's one thing to do this yourself, and if need be spend the next week fettling around to get it perfect. Asking a shop to do when it could come back and bite them is probably unfair.

was told the issue lies with he fact the pull ratio will be off witht he shifters. It will function but will be all over the place
