I bought a fr heifer a few days go at the mart. She is supposed to be 2 weeks calved but she hasnt got a drop of milk literally a little over a gallon a day. I rarely buy at marts and I am disgusted with what I have been landed with. Simply I want to know do I have any comeback at all.

Happened older generation here. They were told that the animal was fine leaving mart. So no come back really. It's annoying. We learned the hard way

have seen heifers react similiar if taken away from calf or if scared but
get a vet to check ,just in case its mastitas related,or anything, get his opinion, then contact mart ,may be too late but, what spiel was auctioneer using any mention of milk yield, etc,

I'd leave it at least a week after buying and if she hasnt come on any I'd contact the mart manger. If the seller made any declaration over yield and she's not living up to it you surely have some comeback. Happened with me lately. A fortnight later a heifer still wasn't milking what she was supposed to be the day of sale so contacted the mart manager who vouched for the seller, he has a heifer sale every year and generally has a good rep. I contacted the guy and hevwas straight up and apologised repeatedly and then refunded a few bob against her. Scanned a few weeks ago and she's 8-9 weeks now so its not all bad

How long do they keep the tapes at your Mart? You could request a listen back to see if any comment was made.

I'd check the ICBF or agfood and check when the calf was registered to her, she could be calved a long time

What helped me was that the seller had made a brochure with the calving dates and declared average yield over last 5 days

at our local mart the owner usually makes a declaration milking 5 gallons and guaranteed to milk 4 if she does not then you have some case but if no declaration or free and fair as a heifer which I think means an egg cup of milk in each quarter you could be in trouble

She was declared right in every way by the auctioneer with an ebi of 177

The biggest problem I have with it is that I wouldnt do the same to anyone with my stock. I have a maiden heifer who is mad as a brush and Im not going to serve her but I wont sell her to anyone without being clear why Im selling her

Definitely contact Mart manager. The fact that a little time has passed does not matter. Ask him what exactly was announced. Free and fair, with ebi of 177 and sold as dairy heifer means an awful lot more than milking 1 gallon. Therfore she is not fit for cause, not suitable for dairy..... Ie.. wrong. Tell him this, ask him to put seller on notice of same but that you will wait another few days to she if she improves after settling in a bit more. If she doesn't, contact Mart or seller with what you want, either send her back with refund or compensation of some sort.

thats the problem though, i seem to attract these type of feckers. I would give her a few days and see how she goes, is she eating and dunging ok?
