Just out of curiosity is it possible & legal to order a Hailo taxi to Dublin airport & have them pick you up at departures or are they restricted from operating within the airport in the same way as those on the rank must hold a permit?

You can book a taxi and have them collect you at the airport (parked in a car park, not at the taxi rank) and I don't think they need a DAA permit for that so perhaps it's possible for Hailo.

Not only can you do this, but Hailo seems to be promoting it!

Just yesterday, I got an email from Hailo saying that they noticed I used Hailo to get to the airport last week and here is free €10 credit * to use when I get back to go from the airport.
We’ve added a €10 credit to your account to get you home quickly and safely from the airport.

When hailing - you can tap the arrow to clarify your location (e.g. T1 Departures) or just give your driver a quick call to clarify the pick-up point.

The guys in the kesh will love this!

I never have used Hailo at the airport, I guess you could just head down to departures and use it there and it is likely a Hailo taxi dropping someone off there would pick you up almost immediately.

To be honest, I'm not sure why you would use Hailo at the airport, it is no cheaper then the usual Taxi's there. I suppose if you want to use credit card, it makes sense.

Uber X probably makes more sense at the airport. Not only can you use a credit card, but you are guaranteed a 2008 or better Sedan car. Not any old juncker.

    * I love Hailo, not only how nice the service is, but since using it, I've gotten €55 worth of free credit from them.

Its not about saving money or the cost. I am just fed up felling I should apologise for living too close to the airport snd having to listen to the drivers whinging all the way home.

Yeah same here! So yes just try using Hailo in departures. Let us know how it goes.

Unless they've changed the geolocation there is/was a dead area that stops you from using Hailo, answer is just to move the blue man on the screen a hundered meters away from where you are :) then amend the adress to pick up at T1 T2 or where ever

I use it all the time to get a taxi home from the airport. Wouldn't use the rank as got fed up listening to the drivers moan about it being a short trip to my home but not short enough to get back within the 20min limit they have to skip the leash. Have encountered the Hailo "dead zone" but always got it to work after a few re-tries.

An alternative is to call a taxi firm and make a booking. Most of them will have cars with a mile of the airport so you shouldn't be waiting too long.

Unrelated matter - sorry need quick answer:

Picking up someone at airport from T2 where best to park don't intend to be there more than 10 mins they should be waiting on me!

Best thing to do is park yourself in the car park of the pubs beside the airport. When your friend is out get them to ring you; that way you are less than 5 minutes drive away from them and it's a hop in and away job. Wait outside either terminal and you will be moved on or clamped.

Do the car parks still have a notice up saying something like
"If you do not agree to theses T&Cs you may exit free by proceeding to the exit" ?
If so just pick them up at the car park exit :)

taxis aren't technically allowed pick up from departures. even if it's a case of them dropping someone off and someone happens to be there. Hailo seem to be getting away with it.

I understand how the poster feels about distance from the airport, I live relatively close to the airport myself and you're often left feeling under a compliment for paying for a service. I also understand how frustrating it must be for taxis who queue for that long for a fare only to get one down the road.

luck of the draw though, isn't it?

That's interesting as up to recently if you dropped the blue man on the airport they had a message saying that they can't pick up there. Note that they say pick up at the departures area and not arrivals. This means the avoid confrontation with drivers in the rank upstairs at arrivals.

Interesting to see how this pans out.

There is a requirement with drivers who are using the airport rank that they don't accept bookings while on the rank; this message may be to do with it than upsetting drivers on the rank.

It is arsey on the drivers on the rank who have paid for permits for the airport imo. They can't compete with that giving credits out for hailo and stuff though.

The odd credit you get from Hailo is no big deal. Its not even about the money at all. A fare for us to/from the Airport averages €15 . I will normally pay the €20.
But not when I have to listen to the complaining all the way home & the driver wanting to drive like a lunatic to make it back in 20 minutes. I'll be looking at the Hailo option in future.

It doesn't matter to me because I don't live near the airport anymore but if I did, I'd happily use Hailo to avoid having to apologise for only living €12 away.
