How long does it take the social welfare to cath someone out for working and drawing social welfare? I know someone who thinks shes been reported. She knows I dont agree with what shes been doing but shes recently had a fallen out with her daughter in law and has heard on the grapevine this could have been done. Just curious.

They have to investigate first. As they could well be building up to a prosecution, this could take weeks or months.

If her daughter-in-law did report her, how would she have heard about it?

She's better off turning herself in. She'll probably sleep better at night, plus stop defrauding the taxpayer.

They have the same circle of friends her daughter in law told someone that wasent talking to her at the time but now is. Believe me my friend knows I dont agree with her doing this (she has 4 jobs on the side) I work and have to pay my taxes. Shes still my friend tho. She did work above board but was layed off when the company moved to another country.

If she was reported and has 4 nixers on the go then it should be very easy for the department of social protection to get a prosecution.

That's no excuse. She's stealing from you.

What happens to the people paying her though? Always wondered about that. Lets say she is doing cleaning, or admin work and getting paid cash into the hand. What happens there?

It sounds to me that you are talking about yourself.

Isn't that usually what people do when they set up a new account?

The word "friend" must be the most common word in "legal discussion".

The number 1, must be the most common post count in "legal discussion".

Never thought of that. I dont know how she gets paid, surely its cash I would say. How do they build a case? We've been friends so long yes I still know its very wrong. Its when I see the panic and worry I feel for her (although we cant afford a holiday this year and shes going on 2)

No genuinely its not me. My partners a civil servant and I also work. This evening I spent a while searching the net and I couldn't get answers on how it works so I joined this. A friend told me about this as she had used it about the children's allowance not going in on bank holidays before.i would not give a persons name, surely you dont expect that!

Your friend deserves all the punishment she has coming. A blind eye can be turned by most people if the person does a days work here and there out of the blue, but working four jobs and taking 2 holidays....she is not just stealing from you, she is also stealing from me and literally taking food off my table, to feed my children. I hope she learns a lesson here.

You say she has 4 nixers going, find that very hard to believe, also what does not affording a holiday got to do with it?

why do they call it the tax payers money
its not the tax payers money, its the governments money

I think tax payers money was made up so people felt if something was been spent by the government that no one agreed too or had a say in or they just didn't like it, they could say that's a waste of my money, when really its not your money at all, you work you earn a wage, you pay tax for the country to be run, the money is not yours once its taking from your wages

When you are not doing a 35/40 hour week it's easy to have four nixers on the go

Its 4 cleaning jobs a week. 2 of them is for the one person as she cleans his business office also. Does that justify your question? As for holidays yes shes taking two and of course I have thaught god its well for her. I only came here to find something out. You seem to be doughting my every word?

On a practical level, the only thing she can do is wait and see (or fess up herself, which I gather is unlikely). Is she is contacted by the department she needs to go see a solicitor.

Edit: Also she should stop claiming benefits she is not entitled to immediately

You can't do anything for your friend. If she is going to be prosecuted she will have to deal with it then and will need proper legal advice. If she is not prosecuted, maybe you would advise her to ensure her work situation is above board to prevent going through this worry again. Small amounts of work do not necessarily mean her benefits will be stopped - I had a friend who had infrequent work was claiming and each week she had to go to them to show what, if any, hours she got, and they revised her payments in line with what income she was getting.

Yeah, she is. I pay tax. That's what her friend is stealing. We struggle to pay a mortgage and feed our kids and have a decent standard of living and her friend is probably in a council house and living it up taking holidays whenever she likes, using money I pay in tax.

How long has your friend been doing this for? Are all the jobs cash in hand or is she paying taxes on any of the jobs she is doing

Shes not in a council house. When she was employed she got a mortgage. Her home is for sale by the banks now. This is why as her friend I kinda brushed off the working

Wow. Did you really think she meant the lady was creeping in the back door at dinner time and swiping a handful of nuggets off the kids
