Parcel motel will only work if it gets posted from the UK.

Getting it posted to parcel motel from the USA will cost the same if not more.

I have heard of services where you can get the item shipped to an American address and get them to forward it to you, although this works out more expensive most of the time as you have to pay post to get it to the service, pay to get it shipped from the service and then the fees.

I have asked US ebay sellers for the cheapest possible postage costs, and tell them I realise this will take a long time and I will not leave negative feedback due to the longer time.

Also if a seller has "free" postage I word my request for postage costs carefully, they have not got "free" postage, the price is included in their item. So if you are getting it delivered extra I would ask something like

"I see your auction includes shipping costs within the US, I was wondering what extra I would have to pay for the additional costs to send to Ireland."

You can even go and check the US postal site and give them a link and estimate, which make you appear helpful, but also lets them know you are not a sucker who is going to accept paying the full amount. So you might say "I see a 5kg package is $15 within the US and $25 to ireland with additional postage, so will I just pay $10 extra"

Also cheaper postage means lower VAT if its got to be paid on it.

Also no harm posting the link or info on the item, people might know a cheaper place.
