Hi all, I was hoping you could help me with something. I was looking at the relationship between variable X and variable Y and it looked like a third variable 'M' was involved too so I decided to use Hayes indirect macro on SPSS to see if M was mediating between X and Y. The trouble is I'm not really sure how to interpret my results.
I was expecting a negative correlation and that's what I found. However, the total effect of IV on DV is -0.4298, the direct effect of IV on DV is -0.2979 and the indirect effect of IV on DV through the proposed mediator is -0.1318. How do I know whether or not the role of the mediator is significant? What threshold or criteria does it have to meet?

Many thanks to anyone who can come up with any useful insight.
