Apologies for copying another posters thread idea but I need help!

Had my car up for sale for around six weeks without any real responce at all and almost 4000 views.

So, I realise i'm doing something wrong.

Have I tried to over sell the car or is it because of it being a hot hatch, over priced ?

A lot of good responces in the other simular thread and i would value your opinions?!

Thanks and please be gentle .

    Try donedeal for cars

Lovely bit of kit and beautifully advertised. I've no doubt it's worth that sort of money, but sadly you're going to have a tough time around here right now at that price-point with a six year old car with over 80,000 on it, regardless of what it is.

Your ad is perfect in my opinion, it's just a bit of a specialist car - someone will buy this if they want that car in particular.

Think I would have took the €7500 offer and bargained a bit.

Im inclined to agree at this point although i'm not sure if that was a genuine offer.

    Thanks.

    Class car.

Just in the wrong country. The usual 'ah sure the tax is too much' or 'lol its a renault i bet it'll fall apart within a week' or some other nonsense.

I'd buy it if I had 8k to spend on a car.

You'll just have to be patient with that.

You might still have it by the time I have 8k to spare on a car. :pac:

I can't really fault the ad, decent pictures and tons of detail.

OP, is selling the car up North or in the UK an option? Once you sell it there you can claim back the VRT minus the €500 admin fee. I'd imagine you would have a wider target audience there.

I would not have thought of that:)

Can I claim VRT back even though I did not bring it in?

Ad is fine, you just have it on the wrong site. Put it up on DoneDeal and Carzone.

I'd also recommend putting an ad on pistonheads.com, it will be hard to sell a car like that in Ireland. You should think about selling it to the UK. Looks like a good example and you'd get some of the VRT back :)

Yes, the VRT refund goes to the last registered owner as long as they have a ROI address.

I have just checked and they would pay back €1724 -€500 admin!

Its got my brain ticking over :)

    Add is perfect,

I would also (not being funny) email Renault service departments, I know the one in Renault Belgard their mechanics have some decent interest in anything from Renault Motorsport they have some Racing Clios.

"you would prefer for her to go to a like minded enthusiast"

Great car, great ad but the site is wrong. And it's a specialist car so you might expect to have to wait for the right buyer who will appreciate what it is, and the work that's gone in. Best of luck dude, would love one!

Great idea and I have already dealt with them in the past!

Defo I would love this car to go to an enthusiast and I only selling it due to unforseen personal issues.

Love the car to bits and if I get a genuine viewer they will be smitten as I was.

    Thanks.

    Yep you are spot on!

Will put it up on some of the other sites and in the Uk.

    Thanks.

    Nice car and great ad.
Limited market so just get it on as many sites as possible. Good luck with the sale.

Can I ask what you're thinking of replacing it with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭Neilw

Advertise it on backroads.ie, should be received well there.

Something with power still, four doors and good spec.

I bought the R26 as my treat after much research and looking at cars that were not as advertised!

They are highly rated across the pond and it was just one of many cars on my list at the time.

It's a year old. Possibly the previous owner.

OP, I think half the problem is that you are in Mayo and have stated that you will not travel to entertain viewings.

Check the ROS site. I would of thought that if no VRT was paid then no VRT can be repayable?

Stick it on Donedeal. I always consider Adverts to be a Dublin orientated site and rarely use it, in fact I never even knew about it till 12 months ago and I think a lot of non Dublin people are the same. They use Donedeal or car zone for searching for cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,482 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

That car has a very limited market in Ireland so I think it is better advertised on a motoring enthusiast's site like Pistonheads, etc rather than the likes of adverts or donedeal where you will be dealing with txt warriors and test pilots asking how much is it to tax and how many miles will it do on €10 of petrol.

Unusual considering your post count and the fact that adverts is heavily pushed on Boards which has the largest viewership of any forum in Ireland.

Interesting point on the UK option.. I have a feeling that when the time comes, that's where my own will have to go due to the fear of high miles/tax in this country.

Would the KM clocks not be a disincentive though? I always preferred the dual MPH/KM clocks we used to have (and which they still have). Dunno why they went KM only here - especially as we share a border with a country still using MPH

I'd spend a few Euro on getting it pride of place in a prestige location somewhere. Avoid done deal and adverts - go for Carzone/Autotrader/Pistonheads.

I'd also reword the ad a little - a few small errors in it.

The market for that type of car is small enough I'd imagine.

    Thanks,

All taken on board and will spend more time adjusting the advert and advertise on the sites that have been suggested.

    :)
