    Hi Guys,

Thanks for having a look at my thread. I was big into the cycling when I was younger and looking to get back into, getting too old for all the other forms of exercise. Mainly a Saturday or Sunday spin about 50KM with the odd trip out west and cycling that bit further.

I am looking at a Cube bike and trying to get all the gear as close to the €1,000 for the BTW scheme as possible. If it goes over a little that doesn't matter too much. Would prefer to buy from LBS rather than online if possible. Any thoughts on this one or is there others you might recommend for me?

Thanks for your replies in advance.

I see it is shimano sora specced which is not the best or the worst but should be fine for what your planning.
I had a sora specced bike up until a few months ago and it was fine for 4,000 km until i got more into cycling and wanted something better for longer spins.
This is the danger , you too might get more into it and want something better in the long run.
Having said that my previous was a lot heavier than that cube but i kept if for 6-7 months before i wanted something better and lighter thus costing me more in the long run.
Sora shifting was fine but im not a fan of the 3x9.
It all boils down to what you plan to do,distance wise, sportives, charity spins etc.
    Cube make good bikes too.

Thanks for coming back to me. Your help is much appreciated. When I was cycling everything was nearly a Raleigh.

Would it be worth increasing the budget to get the next bike up on the ladder it is another €200 but might be able to do a deal in the bike shop. Or are their any others that you might recommend for about the €1,000?

I don't think I will be using it for anything too serious, just weekend spins, charity cycles and hopefully this time next year the ring of Kerry which is my goal that I am working towards.

Here's another decent bike that Fitz cycles also offer - http://www.fitzcycles.ie/p/1689/felt-f#techspec-tab-tab

    Another good brand.

Tiagra rather than Sora, so it's 10 spend.

That's about all the difference between Sora and Tiagra now. They both have integrated shifters. There won't be much of a weight difference.

The extra gear is nice though - it lets you have an extra bail-out gear for climbing or reduce the size of the jump between two of your higher gears. No big deal but I'd pay the extra for 10 speed personally when it's such a small difference in cost.

Or here's a Sora version at a great price from wiggle - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-f95-sora-wiggle-exclusive/

2x9 speed with a carbon fork for 580 euro. That's brilliant IMO. You can use bike to work with online retailers as long as your employer is agreeable.
