Increasing height of handlebars on road bike?

How would you go about this? The bike has a threadless stem and is at the very top of the steerer tube so I can't fit any more spacers. Is there a way to extend the steerer tube?

You could get a stem with a higher angle.

Why do you need to increase it so much?

You could flip the stem so that it is pointing upwards. If it is already pointing upwards then you could try an adjustable stem or one with a steeper angle.

I saw mention of a thread less steering column extender on Sheldon Brown's site. Clamps onto the steerer like a stem would, goes up vertically and then narrows to steerer diameter so a stem can then connect to that.

Never actually seen one in real life and dunno how easy to get they are.

Obviously much better to flip the stem if not yet, or get a more upward stem as mentioned if that's enough.

Just mentioning in case it's of use.

I have a spare one if you need it. Will raise your handlebars approx. 5-6cm minimum, so may be too much for a road bike. If you need only a 1 or 2 cm, flipping the stem will do the trick.

Isn't there a thing called a stem riser or steerer riser that does just what you need? It clamps onto the steerer tube to raise it's overall height and you clamp the stem to it.

This is exactly what I had done by a professional bike fitter to raise my handlebars. Costs nothing to do it yourself!

The reason I need it done is I get lower back pain while cycling as I am too bent over, Thanks for all the suggestions.
