    Hi all,

Just looking for a computer for for the parents. All they want is to browse the web, Microsoft office, look photos and maybe watch something online. Was looking at http://www.dell.com/ie/p/inspiron-3847-desktop/pd but its only got windows 8.

Just wondering would it be worth my while building something instead or just order this from deal?

Why is Windows 8 putting you off? What O S are you hoping for?

They have window xp at the moment so I think windows 8 would be a big change for them! Havent used it myself either so not sure if its any good. Have you used it? Any good?

I'd second an ipad. They come with the iWork apps now so you've got the Apple equivalent of Word called Pages for no extra cost. You can also get the Bluetooth keyboard for them too.

Much more intuitive than than Windows 8 IMHO.

They will get used to it in no time. Tis grand.

Download Classic Shell for Win8 and it looks exactly like Win7.

Thanks for all the advise :)

So what about the two links above? Are they decent computers or is it a crazy price for what your getting? Or maybe there's a better choice!

I'd build it with an apu or celeron/pentium, much better value then rebuilt IMO. Would be fine for a bog standard pc, and you'd probably be able to grab 2 gb of ram and an hdd from their old build to get rid of them from the cost. If budget doesn't matter too much get a 120gb ssd and i3.

    HV20G182DE Intel Celeron G1820, 2x 2.70GHz, boxed 29,95 €
    HV1137RMDE ASRock H81M-VG4, Sockel 1150, mATX 35,58 €
    HV20KI55DE 4GB Kingston ValueRAM PC3-12800U CL11 35,86 €
    HV203Z33DE Zalman T2 Plus Mini Tower - schwarz, ohne Netzteil 19,32 €
    HVR350CSDE Corsair VS Serie VS350, Non-Modular, 80+ 28,62 €
    HV12TMQ3DE Toshiba MQ01ABD032 320 GB 37,03 €

    Total value: 186,36 €

If its only for those uses I wouldn't even use a regular drive, just get a small SSD and that'll be more than enough.
