    Looking for advise please

Maybe accountant may be able to advise

If someone is unemployed and has money on deposit - over 50k - if they were to send their funds and buy a house, would they then be entitled to unemployment benefit??

There is no limit on savings when applying for JSB,the limit for JSA is 20k,you would be means tested on savings above that amount.

And I'd it €188 a week Job Seekers Benefit? What way does that work - do they put you on a job then that you get allowance if €50 more a week??

Would they ever cut you off job seekers???

They'd look for any excuse to cut you off. Jobseekers benefit or allowance isn't "here's a 180 quid you sit there and relax mate" you have to be looking for a job attending meetings every month and if you got on the courses they offer you won't get 50 you'll get 20. The medium they'll give one person is 208 euro pw

Ok cos like we in a no win situation at the mo like - my partner has over 50k on deposit. I am working full time. We want to buy a place. I could get a mortgage. He's not earning anything on his money as deposit rates have dropped. So that's why I thought if we bought a place and he got rid of his funds I got a sole mortgage and joint ownership that he would get JSB. But I duno now after hearing all that

Maybe your partner should look at getting a job first before committing too a mortgage
other wise you will be leaving month to month
    priorities first

You'll never pay a mortgage off with social welfare payments. You also can't sign onto job seekers if you leave your job you have to be let go or have reasonable cause to leave - not being paid enough to suit won't do.

I know social welfare would never pay a mortgage - but I myself have repayment capacity and have a job. So if someone gets JSB and gets a job you can't leave it of their own accord and sign back on JSB as they wouldn't get payment if they left of their own accord??

Do u mean if someone got a job paying €50 extra and they left it that they would not get JSB anymore? Or does it mean if someone got a proper job and left it and then went to sign on again that they would'nt get JSB or if they left job under either scenario that they wouldn't be able to sign back on??

Sorry now. But I'd appreciate any advise thanks

No. If you make enough to pay a mortgage he won't get JSB or JSA.

You're partners therefore your income is taken into account as well. And if you planned to lie about that, you'd be refused and if you managed to get it and they find out you'll have to pay back everything they gave you

    I can't figure that out!

What if he gave me a "Loan" - I got mortgage in sole name and put the house in sole name and made will to give half

If he gave me 30/40k I put it in my name and I got mortgage

I just can't figure out how my income comes into it we are not married we are two separate individuals

If ye are living together as a cohabitating couple then you'll be treated the same as a married couple by social welfare. JSB only lasts for nine months or so, so if your partner is still unemployed after this and applies for JSA then your means will be brought into consideration.

    Thanks JJJD

So JSB is for 9 months what's is JSA then? What is the difference?

What if we bought the property and didn't live in it - rented it out

That's income to be taken into account.

You will not find a loophole in the system.

JSB is jobseekers benefit - it is paid out if you have enough PRSI contributions/stamps made

JSA is jobseekers allowance - it is a means tested payment, based on your household income (including any assets you may have)

If you buy a property and rented it out, you'll have to pay income tax on the rent received, NPPR as it will not be your principal private residence, and also property tax.

Ok do you first get JSB and then after 9months get JSA?

How would you qualify for JSA? If you can't find employment would they knock you off the payment then

Social welfare would normally send you a JSA form about six weeks before the nine months lapse. If you fail to submit the form welfare will stop your claim for payment.

But if u get JSA would they cut you off it after - like if you can't get employment or if you do get employment and you left say etc If you didn't like it - could you sign back on

You can't claim JSB or JSA for a period of nine weeks if you quit your job without good reason.

    Without good reason - ok.

    So could they refuse then

Yes they can. There is no automatic entitlement to JSB or JSA. It's up to your deciding officer to decide if you qualify for either.

This has got nothing to do with accountancy. Try posting in the state benefits forum.
