    Looking for advise please

Maybe accountant may be able to advise

If someone is unemployed and has money on deposit - over 50k - if they were to purchase a house, would they then be entitled to unemployment benefit??

Maybe an accountant? What do they know about social welfare?

I think you're referring to jobseeker's allowance as opposed to benefit since there is no means test for the benefit. Owning a house is no bar to receiving a means-tested allowance, you have to live somewhere.

Im sorry can you explain more?

See, what is the diff between JSB and JSA? JSB only lasts for 9months is that right?

The allowance is means-tested, the benefit is not but the benefit as you said only lasts for a finite period, then you can apply for JSA and they will ask you questions about assets, especially cash.

You know you'll get threads locked for cross posting between forums..

Your very confused about your benefits and your allowances. To get either you also have to prove you are looking for and available for work. An accountant is no good to you. Accountants and solicitors know nothing about SW. You need to find your nearest Citizens Information Centre.

Lawyers don't tend to know much about social welfare entitlements.

You could try the local citizen's information office, or maybe ask the mods to move your query to the State Benefits forum.

    Owning a house isn't a particular problem.

Having more than about €30,000 cash (other than a compensation payment) may affect the amount of the payment, bu the exact details would need to be checked.

So owning a house isn't a problem. Ok

And your saying if the money is proceeds of an accident then they may still be entitled to social welfare

So basically your saying you are on welfare and have come into about 50'000 euro. You don't want the state to stop paying you, now you don't need the money?

Basically why don't you just ask the social welfare office?
