    Hi Guys,

Looks like my PC is dead. Only emits a single high pitched tone when I turn it on. I had a look and nothing seems out of place.

Anyway, If I want to upgrade this PC to an Intel MB with Core-i7 , 16GB of ram will the hard drive (Windows 7) connect straight in or do I need to re-install the OS?

Also where is the best place to buy the above pieces?

BTW: PC is an ASE380-UD420A Aspire from ACER.

    Thanks in advance.

    T

It's hard to know what a single long beep means because Acer have taken down the product page for your PC. I would guess that error tone could indicate something wrong with your CPU or RAM. First thing I would check are CPU temps using CoreTemp, or if you can't get into Windows it should show you in the BIOS. If the temps are high remount the CPU cooler. This will require some thermal paste and something to clean off the old TIM. I would also check to see if there are two or more RAM modules in the board and if so remove one stick of RAM. If it doesn't boot then swap in the other stick of RAM in the same slot, and repeat the process until you have tried all the RAM sticks in all the RAM slots on there own. Somebody else will hopefully spec you an new PC.
