Standing Out From The Crowd

    Hi All!

I have been unemployed nearly 5 years in September.
I am 25, not proud of this, but haven't been idle, had been doing courses, Volunteer Work, a Work Placement, and attempted Internship - Have one left - eek!

Anyhoo, I had been trying to work in an office, but am turning back to applying for jobs in Sales. I have several years of Sales experience on my CV as I have worked in some shops in my local town.

A new local supermarket has opened and has good opportunities. I would love to get my foot in the door, and work my ass off starting at the bottom.

There is positions available, but obviously there will be more applicants than positions.

I have the required education, and have sales experience, but obviously being on the dole will let me down. (I have applied via email, but planning to hand in a CV and Cover Letter on Monday.

I was trying to think of a way I could stand out. I REALLY want a job there.
I was thinking, as well as applying, I would come up with a list of things I would do to get a job at this place.

10 Things I Would Do For A Job at ********

I want to make a list of maybe crazy, daring, funny, but not life threatening lol..

I thought of my Number 10. Dying my hair blue, and getting it all shaved off or in a mad mohican.. Maybe get a small tattoo of the logo on my head (hair will grow over it)..

Sounds crazy I know, but I like the store, am interested in a career with them, but I defo have to up my game if I want a position sooner rather than later.

    Opinions and suggestions please :)

I REALLY wouldn't do anything like that.

Most places want their staff to look and act in a professional manner. Sending a list of crazy things you'd do, and dyeing your hair an unnatural colour, would not be seen as professional.

I agree, I wouldn't do that. One advantage you do have is eligibility for Jobsplus. Make sure to mention this in your cover letter.

    Thanks guys.
Guess I'm just going through one of those frustrating periods of my life, where despite all the job-hunting it's fruitless.
The place is Aldi, and it's one of my fave supermarkets, just opened in town.. It has good career opportunities, but it's hard to convey how much I want this job, and how hard I would work for them.
Things have been a bit tight recently, it's doable, but I've been on social welfare long enough.. It's not just money, without working there's no structure to my life and I feel useless.
I know I'm not the only one, but I don't think I've much of a future "bumming it."
