Businesses who don't respond after interviews

I went for various interviews in the past couple of months in the north and south of Ireland. One thing I notice about the scummy employers in the south is that they rarely send you a response if you don't get the job. Not an email, a phonecall or a letter.

My experience with the north of Ireland is that employers will normally send you a letter if you're unsuccessful which I think is fair enough.

I don't accept the excuse that they're too busy to respond. It's totally unprofessional and when they behave like this, they clearly have no interest how their company's image is portrayed.

Have you had experiences like this?

It's bad enough employers in the south are recruiting through jobbridge but what's worse is that they behave like this aswel. They're so arrogant!

I went to Dundrum this morning on the Luas. Two middle aged men got on and sat in front of me. They were talking about hiring interns. I felt like punching one in the face.

I wouldn't take it too much to heart. Seems to be par for the course here, but at home in the UK, they'll either call or write if you're not successful.

    I consider it a result if I get a PFO! :D

I've had that from UK and continental employers too.

It's fairly thoughtless and dismissive, especially if someone's interviewed for something.

I had a continental company call me for interview and ask me to complete a complex and time consuming assignment for them which they used commercially and didn't get back to me about the job either!

Only once have I not got a response after an interview I've done in the republic.

It is poor form not to receive at least an email after an interview. I had a few interviews in the UK last year and only 2 companies sent me either an email or a letter. I would not limit some poor HR departments to this country.

I sat one interview not so long ago and the lady lectured me about how the company likes to be portrayed and yet they were hiring interns on a weekly basis and weren't getting back to those who sat interviews.

It's happened to me recently. Can't really get my head around it to be honest. When I get back working, I'm planning on sending an email to head of Recruitment/HR to outline my experience through out the interview process (the interview itself was a shambles too).
I know the company quite well as have dealt with them in the past and know that the feedback will be appreciated and action taken.

Wow. I'm surprised that this even happens. If I took the time to travel and prepare for an interview, and the company weren't even bothered to give me a "dear john" afterwards, I'd make my feelings very clear to whoever interviewed me. Bloody neck of ya!

Employers in the Republic of Ireland - not much surprises me about them anymore.

I've had this too and tbh I think it's the height of unprofessionalism and I'm glad I didn't get the job. If that's how they treat me as a prospective employee, I wonder what would happen as an employee if I had a grievance or required flexibility or whatever for personal reasons... I'll always consider that I dodged a bullet by not being hired by those ignorant sh1tehawks!

I've had this a couple of times in the last few months.

Because I'm older than the traditional age that people would be applying for the jobs I was looking for I tended to try drop in Cv's in person ( I look a bit younger than I am IMO and find the personal approach to be better and to show them I'm at least well presented and serious about it ) . I went to drop a CV to a guy in a place that were advertising for people . Turns out I knew someone that worked in the company so he gave me the right guys details. Went out to hand in the CV and he asked me to hang on, got a hold of the manager of the part the job was for and 20 minutes later I was being interviewed by the 2 of them. I was there for about 45 mins altogether .All went well, exchanged pleasantries at the end and 2 months later I haven't had so much as a couple of lines of an email to say I didn't get it.

Got a call in February ish to come in for an interview in a place so headed down. Interview with the HR person and head guy. All going reasonably well, asked to step out for a minute about half way through. Another 20 minutes or so of interview after that. Was asked to email her reference details later on so I did that when I got home. They replied thanking me , then nothing. Not a word.

Over the last year or so I've sent hundreds of CV's out. Loads in reply to jobs that were advertised and loads more on spec should something come up. A small number of the latter got back to say they hadn't anything , but would keep me in mind should something come up, the usual pleasantries that at least acknowledge you exist. One lead to a recent job that I was doing for a bit but didn't enjoy. The vats majority I got no reply whatsoever, which I don't mind really if it was just the unsolicited ones I sent but the hit rate for any sort of reply at all to an actual job ad was tiny. Not even automated mails.

Whilst not that common in my experience, it does happen. On the two occasions, I did drop two emails politely asking about the interview but no reply. This would be a good indicator that their are some issues with those particular companies.

I find Recruitment agencies the worst, Spoke to 3 different ones last week and the week before about positions, had interviews with 2 of them last Monday in which I travelled from Limerick to Dublin to attend and not another word since, even tho they both said that they were happy to forward my details to the employers.. It doesn't require 5 minutes of their time to shoot of an email to me with a PFO or still waiting on word back from the employers its their job FFS......... Thats not to mention all the other that don't even acknowledge receipt of your application.
Times have changed bring back the employees market

Times have changed? It's been like this since 2008. And never believe a word that comes out of recruitment consultant's mouths.

It's still very bad out there, apart from a handful of sectors. I'm doing a *very* basic data entry job for terrible pay at the moment - my boss said he got a crazy amount of applications, some of them from people with 20 years administrative experience! And this is Dublin which is the most economically alive part of the country.

Best of luck with your search!
