So I have this injury for 4+ years in my shoulder.

I got it from a Muay Thai Clinch. Basically someone has your head between their forearms like a vise. They do this so they can knee you in the chest etc. Anyways a way to get out of it is to drop and hand your body from the neck from their grip. They should drop you as they can't hold your body weight. However the guy I did this to picked me up and threw me across the room by my head. He didn't leave go to my body went one way and my head stayed there. Basically this totally f'd my shoulder and neck and it has not been right since. I suppose it was like whiplash.

So I need to go to the physio at least every 3 months to get it loosened out or it gets really bad that I can't turn my neck. I have to take valium when that happens to ease it out as it can't be done by massage and its crazy sore. I have had a cortisone injection into it and it did nothing.

Now I am going to a very good sports doc about this and a very good physio but I can't keep paying money for this forever. It makes sleeping hard most nights. Any advise on a specialist on getting to the bottom of this with an actual solution or am I just doomed for forever pain?

Sounds like your in a pretty tough place rom. My first thought is that if you're going to a physio and a sports doctor every three months and you're problem continues to recur then they're probably not actually that good or at least not any good at helping you.

A bit of a long shot but you could always look into seeing if you could get an appointment with Ger Hartmann in Limerick. He's the one who works with many of the elite athletes. Paula Radcliffe and Sonia have both talked about how good he is. Likely to be expensive and may not be available but nothing lost in asking.

My second thought is that you may want to look out for a chiropracter. I think that the profession is unregulated in Ireland so you'll need to do your research. The quacks can literally kill you but the ones near me all studoed for 6 years and really know their stuff. I'm not joking about the killing by the way so if you do go down this route do your research!

My third option would be to try another physio.

Just to let you know that Dr Eanna Falvey has a clinic in the Elysian Euromedics building in Cork city. Not sure what days he works out of it but he is definitely there a few days a week. You could get the number of his office by ringing the Sports Clinic in Santry or else try Euromedic Cork.

Oswald Schmidt a physio in Brookfield was recommended to me years ago as someone very good with necks and backs. Sorted a serious neck problem for me.

if you can get in to see falvey in cork i'd recommend it. the sports surgery clinic which is his main base is fantastic, 18 months ago couldn't run with a big toe issue, it wasn't falvey i saw up there(was any franklyn miller) but hte whole place is a lesson in professionalism, got me sorted, ran/trained all last summer, stepped up for this year, been training 10 hours a week now for last 6 months and not a sign of an issue.

Pretty much my experience - the equipment is unreal.

I'd had 2 MRI's with euromedic (and about 20/30 appointments with physio's, PT's etc.) and all it showed apparently was mild tendonopathy. So after 9 months of trying to find out what was wrong and fix it - Falvey used some computer imaging to (properly) look at the previous MRI scans and found a split in a longitudinal split in my hamstring tendon. Best €120 I ever spent. Wasted about €2k before that.

3 months of eccentric exercises with the SSC physio's based on his notes, and no surgery was needed. Leg has been fine for last few years.

Most of the GAA lads and rugby lads you'd hear going for op's, such as for ACL's, would be going there.

I honestly think it's great having such a specialist facility nearby.
