Here goes....our local rugby grounds and the adjacent field are absolutely rotten with rabbits. The field is newly seeded grass and being at the bottom of a ruck is bad enough without your face in rabbit crap so out came the old A5 for a little walk. Hid in a hedgerow for a while and popped a nice rabbit and decided to walk back to the pitch where I parked the car ( don't worry I'm a club member and all is in order permission wise and all). Before getting through the hedge between pitch and field I had a quick look through a gap in the hedge and there's two rabbits a good sixty feet away sitting close together sunning themselves and one about three feet and in line behind them. Decided to go for broke and pointed right between the two and covering the third in the background, fired and picked up all three.

Are rabbits making a come back? Based in west cavan and the farm here use have loads of rabbits but i reckon for the last 5/10 years they were completely gone and chatting other local guys said the same, now i have seen a big rise in the sighting of pine martins in that time and was blaming them but heard about a new virus called "RHD" i think that was wiping them near out.But this spring/summer seen a couple of rabbits about the place the first time in years and was wondering are they starting to make a come back??

There is a huge increase in rabbit numbers in my area, I'm getting regular calls for a bit of rabbit control. Headed off this morning at 7am for a shot with the .22 and came home with 21 bunnies. I can honestly say the farm I went to is over run with them, I shot 11 of them in a reseeded field which is very patchy from the rabbits grazing.

I would have had a better bag coming home but the farmer had been out the other night with his shottie so they were a bit wary of me and the jeep. I've explained to him that if he lets it to me and the .22 I'll be a lot more successful in managing the rabbit population than he will with the shot gun.

Rabbits have exploded in numbers in my area this year I've literally shot hundreds with the .22 so far this year and I'm barely noticing any difference in them at all on some permissions. Average bag is around 15 per night. Good considering my average a couple of years ago in the same areas was about 3 or 4

Definitely no shortage in my area either. Every suitable spot is walking with them.
