A friend of mine owns a few acres of land in the country and intends to erect a building (basically a shed). He does not live in this area. He has verbally advised neighbours who live across the road that he will be be seeking planning permission for the building. They have told him that they will be objecting on the grounds that the proposed building will interfere with their view. Any opinions please.

He is within his rights to apply for permission , they are within their rights to make a submission on the application. Nothing more to say really, except there is no right to a view in the way there are rights to light.

It'll come down to the council in the end. They will judge the objections from the neighbours and whoever else intends on objecting. If the council do pass it then the neighbours can go to An bord pleanala. So more waiting round to see what they decided. Only thing wrong with the bord is that almost every member is an "environmentalist", so that may go against him.
