I just want to show the answer to my leak in case it might help other people.I discovered water in the spare wheel well of the car. Eventually after lots of tests to locate the area i noticed that just pouring water on the top of the bumper the water would leak in either side so i had 2 identical leaks. The only way to get at the leaks is to remove the rear bumper which is quite easy.Instructions can be found elsewhere on the net. Polyurethane sealant should be used. i got "Tiger" brand from my local Ford garage.Silicone is not recommended as it does not last.

Bumper removed. Also crash bar and plastic bumper support

Left side you may be able to see the crack where the two panels join, cracked also on RHS.

Where panels join should be sealed and where bolts stick out from inside should be sealed at the base of the bolt.I used a thick piece of flexable plastic over my finger to do this.

Finished job with crash bar and plastic bumper support re-attached.
NOTE. Do not apply the sealant on the RHS as high as i did because it shows when you open the boot and i think that area was ok.

    Refit bumper and job done.:)

Put some sealant around the grommet for the reverse/fog light too. water can ingress through there and pool in the wheel well.

The reverse/fog light on this model is mounted on the plastic bumper away from the body of the car. There was a little water inside one of the lenses though and i checked for a leak in the glass and could not find any but then i discovered the washer in the bulb holder was caked up.i wanted to change both of them but the holder only comes as one whole unit.I cleaned up both washers and i have not had a leak anywhere for 2 weeks now. Thanks for your input.

This is what I am referring too. I'm on my 2nd mk1 focus now and have previously dealt with this issue.

See grommet where wires come into boot. I siliconed around there, as on occasion water could enter there. This was caused by worn wheel arch liner. I sealed under it too and it didn't leak after.

Anyway glad to hear you got it sorted.
