Declaring car off the road - Pausing tax

In my line of work soon I will end up spending 6-8 weeks out of the country maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

If I tax the car for say a year and 4 months later I know I will be out of the country for a month can I declare the car off the road with this new ruling that is in place for that month and get an extra month put onto the disc.

Or am I stuck paying the higher 3 month tax bracket and hoping that I am away near the renewal date of tax?

I know this might seem a bit cheap but when your paying the 2300~ bracket of tax your looking at close to 700 euro if i'm out of the country for 3 - 4 months of the year.

You can't pause the tax it keeps running till the date on the disc, your stuck with the 3 months.

Thanks for the reply. Looked it up on the Revenue website and it seems your right. Also can't declare a car off the road for less than 3 months.

Looks like I'm stuck paying ridiculous prices all year round

You can end the declaration before the 3 months are up by taxing the tax.
