    Hey there,

I have an interview for a staff nurse job next week, and as it is my first interview for a nursing job I was hoping to maybe get some tips and/or advise from anybody who may have been through a similar interview process. Any tips such as examples of questions you might have been asked; interview format etc. would be extremely helpful. I do not know for certain what area/ward within the hospital that the job will fill, but ICU has been mentioned to me on a couple of occasions.
I would really appreciate it if anybody had any sort of advise for me. Thanks so much in advance!

I can't really give you advice as I'm not a nurse, but I did hear somebody saying that nursing interviews are competency based these days. I'm not even too sure what that means!

I would presume questions about cpd extra courses you have done.
    Competency questions.
They may ask about the reporting structure.
    Health and safety questions.
Patient care - they may ask some scenarios what if. .....

They may ask what to do if someone ,/ family makes a complaint
    Dealing with MDT members.
Medication management would be a big one especially with hiqa inspections.

You can always answer questions and then say as per hospital policy as a lot of places have different policies.

Fire evacuation/ hand hygiene. Infection control policies or your awareness of them.

Person centred care patients rights / dignity/ respect throw in all those words!

    The importance of good documentation.

That as a nurse you are goverened by NMBI you work within your scope of practice.

    Qs to ask them ..
Will you be assigned a mentor for the first few weeks of the job.
Is there regular performance development reviews.
Is there opportunities for professional development?
Is there study days funded by hospital available? Trachy/ ventilation etc.
