I don't know much about cars at all but I'd like to start driving next year.
I have a few questions that I've been wondering about.

If I was to buy a Car for a daily commute of 20km each way, What kind of car would be best?
How much does petrol cost per km?
How much on average does your first car cost including tax, insurance and anything else?

20km is nothing. Whatever takes your fancy will do.

Cars fuel consumption is measured in litres per 100km. A litre is roughly €1.70
    Figures vary.

Example, my car averages 6.7 litres per 100km
This means every 100km I do costs €11

Most people spend around €2k on their first car

Insurance varies depending on your age and gender.

Don't forget the cost of getting a licence if you do not yet have one.

Start with a 1L banger and save up for a chick magnet over a few years while you get the hang of driving properly.
Before you buy car, make sure how much the insurance will be aprox.
Get some online quotes and talk to Aviva and the other big ones.

Check this for your area OP www.pumps.ie but by the time you have a car and a licence the price will be closer to 2 euro

I was getting worried there. I thought the Iraqi uprising had sparked a price hike!!

It has gone up a few cent in the last few weeks though. I was getting it for 1.50, now its 1.54.
