Five injured after passengers “catapulted from seats” on Ryanair flight from Dublin
The flight was heading to Barcelona when it hit severe turbulence.

THREE CABIN CREW members and two passengers were hurt when a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Barcelona hit severe turbulence yesterday.

The flight to Reus hit a patch of turbulence unexpectedly, causing passengers and crew to be thrown around the cabin.

One passenger told TheJournal.ie that people were “catapulted from their seats”, hitting the ceiling.

“After several tense minutes the air hostess frantically asked was there a nurse or doctor on board several times, causing panic among passengers. We were concerned that it was the pilot that was injured as the air hostess rushed to the cockpit.

“Eventually the pilot made an announcement, saying he was unaware the turbulence was so strong.

“We were absolutely terrified as the plane pitched aggressively roughly over a 60 degree angle throwing debris all over the plane.

After numerous conversations with fellow passengers and even the injured air hostess, no one has ever experienced this type of fear while flying.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed to TheJournal.ie that there were injuries, though they were minor, and said that medical assistance had been called.

“Our flight from Dublin to Reus experienced some severe turbulence on approach to Reus Airport. Two customers and three cabin crew members sustained minor cuts and bruising.

“The captain called ahead to request the Reus ambulance service to meet the aircraft and provide medical assistance to these crew and customers.”

Looks fairly terrifying .. anyone have any other info ? should the pilot have attempted to land ? (if the weather was bad)

Seems rough alright but why would he have attempted to land? Planes go through turbulence all the time and in the article it says it wasn't expected to be so severe. The injuries were minor so when they got through it there was no need to land. Just continue to its final destination. Think it said it was on approach to rues anyway.
Wouldn't fancy been on that flight. I had been fine at flying but since flying with the oh who is really bad I think its rubbed off on me and now feel every slight bump and hear every noise.

Injuries not so minor, a pax on board broke a bone in her neck, up until yesterday she was waiting for the air ambulance to fly her back for an operation in a Dublin hospital

Apologies,I'm only going on the article. And fair enough a broken bone in the neck is more than minor but it wasn't life or death. And as previously said, it was on approach to rues and emergency services notified. What more could they do.

Ah yeah, im not faulting anybody, just saying about the pax with the broken bone. Defo not life or death but a broken neck bone is definitely not something the crew would be trained for, I dont think they deserve the slating they are getting on that rag 'The Journal'

I know it goes against intuition, but these planes are built to take a hell of a lot of abuse - so I'm almost certain it was never close to crashing - but still , I can't stand turbulence and reading it makes me nervous of flying.

Just after reading the comments on the journal and someone posted this link regarding turbulence and how much a plane can take etc. Well worth the read.
