    hi folks,
I know most of you brewers wont like smithwicks, but i do. Is there a kit out there that resembles smithwicks or what additions, eg. what spraymalt, hops would i add to a kit. I havent progressed to the the boiling yet. Just mixing, ferement and bottling. Ive made a nice stout with coopers stout, dark spraymalt and added treacle. it turned out well.
Anybody make anything like smithwicks? without boiling.
    Thanks, Liam

I cannot say it tastes like smithwicks but St Peters red ale https://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/st-peters-ruby-red-ale-kit-3kg-makes-40-pints-p-748.html is meant to be pretty good for a red ale kit. That kit comes with a hop aroma sachet which I would add just a few days before its ready for bottling for maximum aroma. You could also dry hop with an english hop like goldings for extra hoppy aroma.

I've done the Cooper's English Bitter kit and it came it vaguely like Smithwick's, in a good way.

St.Peter's is a lovely ale. I just brewed it recently. Its very aromatic and caramelly and well worth a try in terms of red ale. Also the hop sachet that comes with it is already a goldings variety.

i have coopers english bitter and st peters ruby red recently brewed.... the st peters is a far far superior brew.. i made the coopers up with 1.5 lme no additions ... st peters is a bit more expensiv..say 25 vs 20 for the coopers and lme.. but break that down over 40 pints ...for the price difference there is a huge difference in taste st peters all the way
