Returning to work in Republic after 8 years in North

Hi, I have been working in the North for the last 8 years. Previous to that I worked in the Republic for over 10 years. I have always resided in the Republic.
I am looking for help / answers about a few things that I am unsure about

Should I expect much hassle from the tax man getting back onto the tax system here? Is it just a matter of getting my P45 and the new employer sorting it out? I have submitted the tax credits and cut-off form for my wife and I.

I didn't pay tax in the Republic as all my earnings were in the North. My wife is a PAYE employee in the Republic. I heard different stories about possibly paying back-tax or receiving a tax rebate in the Republic. Is there any truth to either of these?

Would I be entitled to any tax rebate from the North when I move back down South?

    Thanks in advance

Contact revenue, there are some details from their site: http://www.revenue.ie/en/personal/circumstances/moving/tax-residence.html

You may have also been entitled to cross border relief if you lived in one state and worked in another. You should really seek some expert help.

Thanks Permabear. I spoke to the revenue last week and there I was told to fill in a 12A form. I have since found out that I don't need this form as I have worked in the Republic before. I had provided all this info in the tax office and still got incorrect information. Hence my putting it out here ;-)
I will be taking the proper route eventually though, just trying to garner opinions at the moment.

You not needing it doesn't mean it was incorrect advice! You might be entitled to credits now that you weren't 8 years ago, so by filling out a 12A you could claim them...

Whatever you do don't rely on some clerk in Revenue making sure you get every relief you're entitled to. I've had some really poor experiences with Revenue and silly mistakes. You need your own advisor to sort you out.
