Great race, well done GBCC. Worked my bollix off in the A4 trying to bring the break back, as usual no one else (bar a couple) were interested in helping, unless of course I got a gap!

Usual terrible positioning in sprint saw me in around 10/11th again. One lad came down hard right in front of me, hope he's ok.

Lovely route, well marshalled, great days racing.

was in the A4 and didn't even realise until after that there was a break... there was no organisation really and the GBCC lads were hardly going to the front to chase down their own guy.
great course and enjoyed the hill which weeded out alot. didn't get involved in the sprint and saw the GBCC guy take the wobble, hit the kerb and land in the grass verge. hope he is alright... it looked bad.

heard one lad asking what was a "KOM" was before starting!

one thing that really annoys me is the lack of showers and food at these races. there were a few sandwiches but nothing tasty for after the effort.... like what would a few fruit cakes and madeiras cost and throw them on the tables! and then no showers either. 15 euro's and i would at least expect that. the likes of Ras Maigheo and Donamon were great events for food and showers.

...just wondering if there's any online reports or pics from the day ? (I was marshalling on the Blood Bike) - always good to see how it turned out as I usually wait back for the last riders on the course.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

There are definitely 2 breeds of bike people out there. On one hand triathelites, sportive riders and adventure racers will sometimes pay what I consider to be outrageous entry fees for events and not think twice about it.

And on the other hand you have some racers who consider 15 euro expensive. Can accept this to some extent coming from juniors (who presumably are often skint) but in all honesty 15 euro is well cheap for these events and the organisation that goes into them. Look at fuel costs travelling to races and general bike maintenance costs (you just don't see racers on rubbish bikes) and 15e pales into insignificance.

I'd say stop in a garage, buy your own goodies, pour a bottle of water over yourself after a race and wipe down with a towel. And view any occasion where there is food or showers as an extra special bonus !

Agreed if you want a warm shower and nice food stay at home.

what about the 3 man break then in the a3 race? 3 riders nearly 80k up the road. I had made the inital move when there was 5 after attacking on a descent through crosswind but got dropped on the KOH 10k later, as I said I was about 20kg too heavy for them

Atleast the Air Attack is working :)

This phenomenon is not unique to cycling: in the Vintage bike & car world I come across people telling us our event is 'dear' at €30 (including a full lunch), but they have no problem spending €10k+ on the machine (which is fine btw !!).

€15 is the fee dictated by CI for events so clubs have to charge that (and not more) I believe.

tbh by the time they pay out prize money, an ambulance, commissars, other sundry expenses etc.. they often lose money. It's a thankless job organising races and hats off to everyone involved

So bring a towel, wipe yourself down after and enjoy the racing! :)
