Driving Test in Roscommon - Advice please

    Hi all,

I have my driving test in Roscommon next week, having failed in Rathgar twice this month (I now have a mental block re Rathgar). Not bad fails in Rathgar, reaction to hazards was the only common problem between the two tests, all grade 2s.

I am from Roscommon, but don't know the town. I would be really appreciative if anyone could give guidance on routes, turnabout areas, etc.

    Thanks.

I failed in Dublin on my 1st go. Did my retest in Roscommon and passed with just 2 minor faults.

Roscommon town is one of the best places in the country to do it, Pass rates are very high. The tester there is great, very relaxed persona which helps you relax and calm your nerves. Very straight forward and clear instructions.

I didn't know the town until I did a few runs.

There are allot of roundabouts so make sure you know yours stuff and always think positioning and observation

Watch out for the right turn just after you cross the railway bridge, Signal early.
The left turn as you drive up the town after you pass the post office, Its tight, do it slowly and carefully.
And the turn right as you come out of the housing estate opposite Dr Hyde Park. You are turning onto a busy road, take care.

If they bring you for the 3 point turn down that little street to the right, opposite the Spar filling station, be careful, There's no curb, just a wall on one side, you have to judge the distance.

Watch out for walkers on the road that runs from Hannons Hotel to the Golf Club, No road marking or footpaths. And on the road that links the county home road to the galway road back out at the railway bridge, Again no marking, likely hazards.

    Best of luck.
